uramichi-oniisan

— something i posted on my tumblr lol
i'm not a comedy anime/manga person, but there's something about life lessons with uramichi-oniisan that just does it for me. like the above quote said, i never was expecting to be so fully invested in this series. i only found out about it after seeing that one clip of iketeru (played by mamoru miyano, bless him he nailed the laugh) laughing over a dick joke. i've been on a roll lately with reading manga however, so i picked up uramichi-oniisan on a whim and ended up enjoying it more than i expected myself to. the type of comedy they start out with where uramichi's depression contrasts with his interactions with the kids on the show is only really prevalent during the beginning, and i find that the situations they find themselves in diversify over time, becoming more of a wacky work com. it's a shame that most of the manga is not translated yet, because i'm looking forward to what they have next.
uramichi is my favorite character! i love how, in spite of his own personal problems and bleak outlook on life, he genuinely cares about the children and his co-workers (his relationship with iketeru is adorable). his backstory + college years with usahara and kumatani are the things i'm looking forward to learning about, and i sorely hope that the anime covers that given that the translation of the manga is lagging behind.
speaking of the anime, it was also something i picked up on a whim, because i wasn't planning on watching it but i wanted something in the corner of my screen to watch as i was practicing my touch typing (YEAH i picked up touch typing recently. the origin story of why i can't touch type to begin with can be its own entry lol). i really liked it even if it's not my thing? like i half-expected to be disappointed but i'm really enjoying it so far. my excitement for the next episodes is strange, even to me lmao. the voice cast is filled with the Vets™, such as hiroshi kamiya, whose range continues to astound me. compare uramichi to his role as trafalgar law in one piece.
anyway, the anime is still starting out, and there is a whole bunch of characters that have yet to be introduced, so i'm looking forward to seeing what else they'll cover, and how they'll execute it.
