this journal is for… whatever i want to talk about really. i like to read, make things, and plenty of other stuff, some of which are listed below. i'm a lurker at heart. i become the world's most insufferable person when pro wrestling is involved. here is a safe space for me away from all the discord of the current internet landscape.

more personal/life posts are access-locked. i usually give access if 1) we've interacted before, and/or 2) you generally pass the vibe check. comments are welcomed (however screened)! i'm shy but i enjoy talking to people. you may also reach me through my e-mail: jyushimatsu-san[at]protonmail.com

oops! all numbered lists!

Challenge #6: Top 10 Challengemid last year i started logging the songs i had on repeat every month, so here are my top 5 (taking into consideration actual playback time, but also how much i like them)
  1. "it's you" (stevie wonder & dionne warwick) - the CHOKEHOLD this song continues to have on me must be studied in a lab. "i just called to say i love you" is a fine song and it's the most popular single off the woman in red soundtrack for the reason, but "it's you" is just so romantic to me. which makes it more baffling to me that it comes from a soundtrack to a movie about attempting to do an infidelity but that's neither here nor there
  2. "big vibe" (seaway) - i'm heartbroken that i will probably never hear this live seeing as they are pretty much disbanded. it's an earnest "this is a cool girl and i adore her" song, i can even excuse rhyming "shit" with "shit."
  3. "enchanted" (taylor swift) - i run the gamut of "uninterested" to "actively hostile" when it comes to taylor swift as a person, but i have a soft spot for her older work. there's just something about the "please don't be in love with someone else" lyric that speaks to my soul, i could see it as great material for fic too.
  4. "flash forward" (le sserafim) - 2025 was the year i "got" le sserafim, thanks to spaghetti. i love their club bangers but as always i love k-pop b-sides that just sound like this.
  5. "earthquake" (knuckle puck) - unpopular opinion but i prefer knuckle puck's more "chill" stuff as opposed to the angst they are known for (copacetic, etc.). i feel as though thematically this song is in the same vein as "big vibe." love the guitars on this one!

Challenge #9: Favorite Tropes - Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works.
  1. fix-it fics - i have respect for fix-it fics on principle because is that not why writing is so wonderful? to take what you consider a bad outcome and taking it upon yourself to set it right? i enjoy knowing that anything is possible.
  2. groveling - i'm going to be real you guys, sometimes i seek out romance fiction with male leads i know i'm going to despise just to see if it has a good grovel. then i pretend it ends there so the protagonist doesn't take him back.
  3. loving bully - i've written about how much i like this trope before in a previous snowflake challenge, and i will reiterate that there is a very fine line delineating when this trope is cute and when this trope becomes repulsive to me. i once picked up a romance novel with this as its central trope and i hated every minute of it because i was expecting the bullying/teasing to be light-hearted and clearly the product of immaturity (upon further reflection it's when this trope is crossed with that of the tsundere that i enjoy it most), not for the male lead to be an irredeemable prick.

as i am swamped with work most of the week, i have made the executive decision to have my snowflake entries be in little bundle posts :)

Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom - Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!i don't have any pets of my own, but i'd like to use this prompt to talk about my older brother's dog, gipsoy! he is a 10 year old yorkshire terrier, and yes his name is derived from pacific rim (i think his official name on his certificate is something along the lines of black thunder gipsy danger). my brother originally bought gipsoy's sister, but as she prematurely passed away, the breeder gave him gipsoy instead.

gipsoy used to be rather aggressive in his youth, in both the bark-y and bite-y kinds (he has bit my sister-in-law's mother before). in his advanced age however, he's mellowed out significantly and takes pets like no problem. when he barks, he still sounds a bit like a puppy. affectionately, he is known to me as the "little grandfather."

as for me and potentially getting a pet of my own in the future, i think getting a cat would be the best fit for my lifestyle, but i recently had a "puppy fever" phase where i threw myself into researching how to get and care for a dog. however, i'm adamant that i don't get a pet until i am absolutely sure i am ready for one.

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page - Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!for consistently intriguing/interesting readings and videos, i enjoy frequenting aeon and its sister site, psyche. to start you off, here's an article on a doubting theologian, and a video about the inherent connective nature of art.

Challenge #5: Wishlist - Create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.speaking my fannish wishes out into the world:
  1. i would love for more foreign pop punk acts that i enjoy to hop on over and hold concerts/gigs here. i am specifically asking for hot mulligan and knuckle puck. while i'm at it, i would also like to wish for more easily accessible band merch.
  2. last year i asked for icons, and i'm doing it again—would love icons of kamen rider zeztz and OOO :)
  3. i would like to own any pair of the puma x sonic the hedgehog shoe collab. i need the shadow sneakers in my life so badly.

Day 1: The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

hello, i'm juno! i've been fannish since i was a kid with sonic the hedgehog and inazuma eleven being among my childhood fixations, but these days my biggest interests lie in pro wrestling and k-pop. i don't usually post my fan creations out of shyness, but i enjoy doing art and making icons.

i have been doing the snowflake challenge since 2022—you come for the prompts and the challenge of keeping up with them every week, but you stay for the interactions you have with people, new or familiar. although i journal regularly in private, i tend to fall in and out of posting online. writing for snowflake is consistently the event that shakes me out of it. it's tradition at this point. looking forward to it!

as i take it, the revolution rumble event wasn't universally well received by all british wrestling fans, but as someone who has no easy way to actually watch the whole thing, my real issue is that CPF (joe lando and danny black) lost to the young guns (ethan allen and luke jacobs). this outcome, when i was sure they'd win based on my cursory knowledge of wrestling storyline progression meta .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·. i'm also kinda miffed that tk cooper lost his match too. i know it's in service of progressing his trouble in paradise storyline with his tag partner chuck mambo (my beloved) but i am so over it.
rukario: satori tendou from haikyuu!! (tendou)
i discuss reply 1997 spoilers here kinda )

🤼 i continue to be mostly checked out of mainstream wrestling and content with following individual wrestlers instead. and in the past month, thanks to my unbridled kid lykos fandom, i slipped into following the british indie wrestling scene. a significant part of my descent into britwres is the currently on-indefinite hiatus promotion modern nomad pro wrestling, because they really are just that damn funny and i love the commitment to themes/gimmicks per show. i love it the most when wrestling isn't wrestling.

also can we talk about thekla in AEW? i love that spider girl. her art is so cool too.

📑 never thought i'd be into loose leaf binders, but here we are. i just love how they permit discontinuity, and they feel a lot less intimidating than a bound book.
rukario: satori tendou from haikyuu!! (tendou)
👑 i saw state champs live last month! they were so, so good live, basically the opposite of what i think a taking back sunday live performance would sound like according to reddit.

prior to going, i had tried doing some research to see what a state champs concert would be like, and my God they were not lying about them being high-energy all the way through. so high energy, i didn't notice they managed to squeeze 21 songs in 1.5 hours. two of the songs i wished would be on their set happened: "light blue", which was so exciting because i specifically wore the dolce&gabbana fragrance the song was named for in anticipation, and "act like that", which was so exciting BECAUSE SOMEONE PROPOSED DURING THE PERFORMANCE

🌄 yesterday i sat down and listened to sub-radio's new album release sunrise city. i liked it, but i think the second half of the record needs some time to grow on me. the first half was composed of the singles they released over the past few months. personal highlight songs include "sleep on the beach", "I'M IN LOVE!!", and "dimension".

💔 one of the cutest music videos i know of is for "kiss me again" by we are the in crowd, featuring alex gaskarth of all time low. recently i learned that tay jardine (the female vocalist) and alex actually had something going on at the time (2012) which highly disappointed me as i assumed they were really good friends that just so happened to have electric chemistry. anyway. this ship had a staunch community of supporters back in the day on tumblr. it's so interesting getting to scour these old blogs and piecing together the story of the ship, browsing the fanmade ship content (usually GIFs and photosets, of course), and remembering how people used to tweet and use instagram in the 2010s.

Day 11: In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.

i love the bully turned lover trope in fiction, but 1) the softer side of the bully character has to be apparent and they CANNOT be genuinely abhorrent, and 2) the actual bullying isn't horrendous, preferably if it's mostly petty. this isn't a romance but the manga bimyou ni yasashii ijimekko is a shining example of what i'm talking about. i have tried reading at least one romance book with this trope as the centerpiece but i could not get into it because i found the love interest so unlikable, just a genuinely garbage human being and emotionally constipated *in spite* of his attraction to the protagonist. like hello, i'm here specifically for cute pining peppered in between bothering your designated target, not whatever that was. (i've blocked that book's events from my memory, not only because i didn't think it was anything to write home about when i first read it, but also because the ending came out of left field and was so, so bad)

i enjoy the possessiveness inherent within this kind of dynamic, and the whole "i'm generally unpleasant to everyone, including you, but i seem to focus on you in particular because you are actually special to me," bonus points if the bully does what they do because they don't know how to get close to their crush in a normal way. and when they do get together, you then get to enjoy your standard protective partner and rough-around-the-edges but sweet to their lover stuff.

Day 7: In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts.
  • pacific rim icons! specifically of the giant robots, or raleigh and mako.
  • pop punk OR metalcore recs.
  • an active wrestling community on dreamwidth, if only because i think discussions could be more civil here compared to anywhere else on the internet. a place where you could share wrestling fanwork would be so cool.
  • fragrances themed around media i like. listen i just think wrestling promotions should take a page out of kpop's book and do wrestler-themed scents, so i can have a citrus-y orange cassidy perfume. they can be released in collections based on faction or associations between wrestlers. AEW hire me i can make you morbillions. i am also open to sonic and kirby themed scents, if only because i think the packaging could be bomb

Day 6: Share your favourite piece of original canon.

the gipsy danger vs. otachi fight from pacific rim is like a baby sensory video to me. even if you have no vested interest in watching the full movie (although i heavily recommend it because context can deepen your appreciation, and also because the movie is so, so good) in my opinion this scene does so much right. the music! the physical impact of the combat! the character moments!
rukario: mandricardo from fgo as depicted in the craft essence "club argonauts" (mandricardo)

Day 2: In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story.we could always start by talking about my fixation with watching fanmade sonic the hedgehog videos, but what i consider my true fannish origin started with inazuma eleven and in particular this freak right here. one day i stumbled upon a tobitaka-centric fanfic on ff.net and it was all over for me. i think i also read some katekyo hitman reborn! fic and pokémon fic around the same time. my first taste of "x reader" fic was with the maze runner films, and it's for that reason i can't be so totally mad at that specific flavor of self-insert fic even if i get annoyed that it clogs up tumblr tags of certain media (kpop. i mean kpop).

re: actually creating some of my own fanmade stuff, i got my start by posting fanart on the seventeen subreddit.

Day 4: Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good!
  1. be more in tune with my body - last year i would say was the start of me attempting to shed the label of "horrible at anything physical, why try" in earnest. i'd like to continue that this year! especially since i've learned how to bike, and am very, very slowly venturing out and expanding my palate (make no mistake i still have the sensitivities of a picky eater and i am made fun of accordingly by my peers, but what i can or cannot do should not be dictated by people who don't know the full story).
  2. be more of myself - unapologetically!
  3. do whatever - for the most part arbitrary rules pervade how i do things. because of this, i admittedly have a little trouble with doing even the most benign, mundane activities without feeling like i'm committing some sort of misdeed. something to work on, and sort of intrinsically connected to goal #2.
