🌦 we've been getting sporadic rainshowers, finally, but on most days i still sweat buckets ✌🏼😔
📚 finished reading the queen of the ring by jeff leen, an account of the life of woman wrestler millie burke. it's an interesting look at what the wrestling landscape was like for women in the 1930s-1950s, and mae young and the fabulous moolah do indeed make an appearance here! having to read about burke's dealings with her scumbag husband billy wolfe is kind of a slog (to be honest this is probably why it took me some time to finish this book), but what was most fascinating was learning how she spread women's wrestling to asia (i literally have an annotation that just says "PHILIPPINES MENTIONED").
a few weeks ago i also had the pleasure of reading "hansa and gretyl and the piece of shit" by rebecca curtis. every now and again you come upon a short story that just knocks the wind out of you; this piece did that for me.
🎵 slowly but surely getting into apink, their earlier stuff is entirely up my alley in ways i cannot describe. the girlishness of their musicality is just something i really like. i owe my thanks to dino of seventeen (known apink fanboy) for making them known to me. other than that, recently i listened to the masterpiece EP (2023) by the twice sub-unit misamo, which i really liked, and of course, busted (2002) by busted. back when i still had twitter i tried keeping a thread of albums i listened to, in an attempt to diversify my music taste. i'm bringing back the spirit of that practice by keeping a personal spreadsheet of albums/EPs i make my way through, as well as my favorite songs from each, because if i walk away from an album liking even one song, then i've won.
(i've been thinking about how harsh internet users can be when rating music but then i realize i'm exactly the same way, i just don't make those feelings publicly known. lol)
🤼♂️ been in a down period as of late when it comes to following wrestling… the fallout of best friends and the loss of chuck taylor's presence on TV has been a huge blow. i haven't been watching WWE, mostly because i've come to think they're not a company worth my support, but also because post-cody finishing the story they have nothing interesting going on. i've been content with following wrestlers as individuals rather than whole promotions.
