makin a zine
i'm working on a digital zine about… something wrestling fandom-related, if i ever decide to publish it then you'll probably know why i'm so hesitant to come right out the gate about what it is. it's my first real creative project, and so far i'm having a lot of fun with it, even if the cover was a PAIN to color in (by the end of it my neck felt compressed lol). my main struggle right now is sitting down and writing the zine content… i'm not very eloquent or verbose but i have to keep telling myself this (and everything else i've made or will make) is all about self-expression, "doing literally anything," and the joy of saying "wow, i made this thing!"
lately i've been reflecting on what it really means to be a creative and making things irrespective of what others may think of its quality or of your skill. the past few years have found me so worn down by chasing academic deadlines and fulfilling rubrics that i no longer remember what it feels like to do something for yourself and be satisfied with something you made; now that i've left the academe (for now), i want to try and re-learn what that feeling is.
