i finished watching kuroko's basketball season 1

"the only one who can beat me is me"
"lol", i said, "lmao"
i picked this show up on a whim, although i've been planning to watch and/or read it for some time now. for the most part i usually have a hard time committing to watching a show, but knb's 25 episode length was honestly the sweet spot. not too long that i get tired from binging it, not too short that i am left unsatisfied. i liked how realistic it was in that they can't win all the time, and that only makes the devastating moments even more devastating. i got invested in the stakes and i can respect that about this anime's writing.

my favorite characters are kagami and midorima. kagami is really fun to watch and i love his passion for basketball as well as his bond with kuroko (the light and his fated shadow babey <3), and i enjoyed seeing his struggle to not succumb to the self-centered mindset that the generation of miracles has. he likes burgers, and so do i.

midorima is a prickly glasses-wearing member of a sports team, just like tsukishima, so i'm beginning to think i have a type of some sort. i was a little off-put by his obsession with horoscope since i don't like those types of people irl, but his philosophy of doing everything you can before destiny will help you intrigued me and earned my respect. in spite of "disliking" kuroko, he genuinely respects his abilities, and him helping out kagami in his own tsun-tsun way was really cute. his stoic nature only makes the times he smiles all the more special.

the anime's soundtrack and image songs are on another level. "can do" is already a god-tier anime op, but i also tried listening to midorima's image songs ("neraidoori no destiny" and his duet with kuroko "koto no uede korekara mo") and i had them on repeat for a couple days lmao. i tried looking up where i could order the cd's but then i learned shipping alone will cost me 1k, so no. i'm also quite fond of some of the other supplementary material like the drama cd's, but maybe that will be its own separate entry alongside me gushing about the image songs some more haha

one thing i will note is that unlike haikyuu!! where mostly everyone is likable, i do find myself hating some characters. this isn't necessarily a bad thing, i like getting angry at fictional characters sometimes, i just thought it was interesting. the meaning of "antagonist" in haikyuu!! simply means an opponent or rival school with no necessary malice involved, but here in kuroko the generation of miracles are total jerks that need to be taken down. i'd love to deck aomine in the mouth but i can already tell i'll warm up to him, which is mildly frustrating. i find momoi especially annoying though lol

i already watched the first ep of s2 but i'll be taking a small break so that i don't get sick of the show. i'm very happy i started watching (i literally haven't been able to shut up about it on my private twitter) and i can't wait to see what comes next.
