rukario: satori tendou from haikyuu!! (tendou)
👑 i saw state champs live last month! they were so, so good live, basically the opposite of what i think a taking back sunday live performance would sound like according to reddit.

prior to going, i had tried doing some research to see what a state champs concert would be like, and my God they were not lying about them being high-energy all the way through. so high energy, i didn't notice they managed to squeeze 21 songs in 1.5 hours. two of the songs i wished would be on their set happened: "light blue", which was so exciting because i specifically wore the dolce&gabbana fragrance the song was named for in anticipation, and "act like that", which was so exciting BECAUSE SOMEONE PROPOSED DURING THE PERFORMANCE

🌄 yesterday i sat down and listened to sub-radio's new album release sunrise city. i liked it, but i think the second half of the record needs some time to grow on me. the first half was composed of the singles they released over the past few months. personal highlight songs include "sleep on the beach", "I'M IN LOVE!!", and "dimension".

💔 one of the cutest music videos i know of is for "kiss me again" by we are the in crowd, featuring alex gaskarth of all time low. recently i learned that tay jardine (the female vocalist) and alex actually had something going on at the time (2012) which highly disappointed me as i assumed they were really good friends that just so happened to have electric chemistry. anyway. this ship had a staunch community of supporters back in the day on tumblr. it's so interesting getting to scour these old blogs and piecing together the story of the ship, browsing the fanmade ship content (usually GIFs and photosets, of course), and remembering how people used to tweet and use instagram in the 2010s.

for a time, i only knew busted as the band who originated "year 3000," a song popularized by the jonas brothers. i've seen many a comment regaling how their life has been a lie upon learning it wasn't a jb original.

i don't really have a rationale behind deciding to listen to this album, besides the fact that "year 3000" is on it, and i thought i could find similar stuff. you can tell it's a teen rock record because "she's my psycho girl, my psycho girlfriend" is one of the lyrics of all time.

the most… interesting song on this album is the first. the person who inspired this song does know about it, but it's just unhinged to me. this genius annotation speaks for us all. the jonas brothers covered this one too, and i'm rather impressed by how they chose to go about it. i guess a song about crushing on an upperclassman and successfully getting with that upperclassman is supposed to be marginally better than getting with your teacher (it's not, it's really not). if they had done a straight cover i would have cried.

the rest of the album is pretty meh to me, although i'd say the songs until "year 3000" are the stronger ones on this record. "you said no" (originally "crash and burn," they changed the title because of the 2003 space shuttle disaster) is probably my favorite. the last track, "loser kid," is kind of worth listening to, if only because "what i go to school for" is actually paid off.
